Stakeholder Dialogue Forum

Green Infrastructure for and with citizens: How can local governments make it happen?

13 October 2015, 09:00 - 17:00

Organiser: ICLEI - Local Governments for Sustainability on behalf of the GREEN SURGE project

Venue: Mundo B, Rue d'Edimbourg 26, 1050 Bruxelles

This Stakeholder Dialogue Forum will bring together city planners and policy makers, scientists and DG Research representatives to discuss the manifold options for local governments to plan, govern and maintain green infrastructure in their cities and realise their multiple social and environmental functions and benefits. City planners and policy makers from Utrecht (Netherlands), Edinburgh (United Kingdom), Milan (Italy) and Berlin (Germany) (TBC) will share their experiences with involving citizens in green infrastructure planning and management and making green spaces available and accessible for all groups of society.

GREEN SURGE research partners will complement each session with findings from their latest research into green infrastructure, focussing on governance aspects and the multiple social and environmental functions that it can provide. Representatives from DG Research will contribute with the European Commission’s perspective on urban green infrastructure planning and implementation. The open, interactive format of the event will make the most of the diverse mix of experts to stimulate discussion, to identify gaps and potential and to relate research on green infrastructure to the practicalities of planning and implementation on the ground.

The event will also see the launch of the European Learning Alliance on urban green infrastructure, a virtual community and peer exchange platform of local government planners and other experts specialised in urban green infrastructure and bio-cultural diversity.

The event is organised by ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability on behalf of the GREEN SURGE project. It will be held in the eco-sustainability hub Mundo B in Brussels (Belgium) on 13 October 2015. Refreshments and lunch will be provided to participants throughout the day and the event will be followed by a GREEN SURGE Social with drinks and finger food.
